UK PM Johnson Expected To Resign On Thursday To Make Statement
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to resign on Thursday, his office said, adding that he would make a statement to the country.
BBC political editor Chris Mason said on Twitter: "Boris Johnson will resign as leader of the Conservative Party today."
Johnson held on to power despite the resignations of many of his top ministers.
On Thursday, the man he had appointed as finance minister less than 48 hours ago urged Johnson to step down.
"The prime minister will make a statement to the nation today," a spokesman said.
Defense Secretary Ben Wallace also called on Johnson to step down but said he would remain in his role to protect national security.
Johnson's goal was to remain as prime minister until a new leader was chosen later in the summer.
