Chelsea Handler Announces Breakup With Jo Koy: 'Continue To Root For Us'

There will be no more collaboration between Chelsea Handler and Jo Koy.

On Monday, 47-year-old Chelsea shared on Instagram that she had split from Koy.

"It is with a heavy heart to announce that we have decided together that right now it is best for us to take a break from our relationship," Handler wrote in the caption of the video they planned to share on their one-year anniversary.

It is hoped that this is only a temporary situation, a source tells PEOPLE.

According to a source, it's clear that their relationship has changed both of them for the better.

"I wanted to let you know how much that meant to both of us. How much it still means. And how much I have come to believe in love for each one of us," Handler wrote in her heartfelt Instagram post.

Her life experience has been changed forever because of Koy, who "blew my heart open with love."

Handler: "I've never been more optimistic for the future than I was after experiencing @jokoy's love and adoration. I've never been happier than after experiencing @jokoy's love.

A message Handler sent Koy said, "You blew my creativity open, my lust for work again, and my spirit for travel again, and you reminded me of who I am and always have been. I feel firmly planted in the ground for the first time in my life."

Let's go!" she concluded.An old mutual friend introduced Handler, 51, and Koy, 51, nearly 20 years ago. This led Koy to appear regularly on Handler's former E!Chelsea Lately aired from 2007 to 2014. Her recent guest appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live has made fans excited about her possible return to late-night television.

During a Los Angeles Dodgers game in September, Handler and Koy looked cozy, sparking dating rumors. As soon as she became in love, she posted about it on social media, concealing Koy's identity.As she captioned a photo of herself appearing content on Instagram, she expressed gratitude for the many people who are in her life, for the lifestyle she leads, and for being on tour. 

In addition to that, the comedian revealed, "I've finally fallen in love with the best kind of guy there is. You never know. That kind of stuff."

A few days later, Handler posted two Instagram pics of the twosome kissing, making their relationship official.

The caption of her post read, "He's on tour, I'm on tour, sometimes we tour together." With those words, she added, "#VaccinatedAndHorny #FunnyIsFunny. All coming to a city near you!"

In October, Handler invited Koy, who is also a comedian, on her Dear Chelsea podcast to talk candidly about their relationship. Even though Handler and Koy agreed that their chemistry was "amazing," he initially didn't consider Koy romantically because of the "brother energy" he had.
