Carrie Underwood – Praying For Time Lyrics
These are the days of the open hand
They will not be the last
Look around now
These are the days of the beggars and the choosers
This is the year of the hungry man
Whose place is in the past
Hand in hand with ignorance and legitimate excuses
[Carrie Underwood - Praying For Time Lyrics at http://delyrics.net]
The rich declare themselves poor
And most of us are not sure
If we have too much but we’ll take our chances
‘Cause God stopped keeping score
I guess somewhere along the way
He must have let us all out to play
And turned his back
And all God’s children
Crept out the back door
And its hard to love
Theres so much to hate
Hanging onto hope
When there is no hope to speak of
And the wounded skies above
Say its much too late
Oh maybe we should all be praying for time
This is the year of the empty hand
Oh you hold onto what you can
And charity is a coat you wear twice a year
These are the days of the guilty man
The television takes a stand
And you find that what was over there
Is over here
So you scream from behind your door
Say whats mine is mine and not yours
I may have too much
But I’ll take my chances cause God stopped keeping score
And you’ll cling to the things they sold you
Did you cover your eyes when they told you
That he cant come back
‘Cause he has no children
to come back for
And its hard to love when theres so much to hate
And hanging onto hope
When there is no hope to speak of
And the wounded skies above
Say its much, much too late
Mm, well maybe we should all be praying for time

I really do not understand what this song is saying.

I think this song is so beautiful and sad and the same time. It tells us to stop thinking of only ourselves and what we have and to start thinking of others the way God intended us to!

This song is also about a former bf of George Micheals who lost a battle with AIDS

First of all, let’s get this right. It isn’t Carrie’s song, it was written and sung by George Michael in the 90’s. It’s an old tune.
Second of all, it is surprising to me that someone wouldn’t know what it’s about.
It is about the way humans have been greedy for so long and we are paying the price. We all need to think about the way we treat each other and the earth we live on in order for us to survive. Big changes need to be made in our hearts and souls and the actions of our everyday lives need to reflect a kinder, gentler human race.

The fact that someone could hear the words of this song and not feel it’s conviction is a true testament to the fact that we should all be praying for time.
I have not felt a song in my heart the way I feel this song in many, many years. I am regretful only that I just discovered it recently. Thank you Mr. Michael for such an amazing piece of art. And thank you Carrie Underwood, for singing it with such honesty.

This song is truly heart-wrenching! The original version, sung by George Michael is absolutely haunting. In this version, you can tell that Carrie Underwood is emotionally impacted by the lyrics. She looks as if she is struggling to maintain composure as the song ends and the audience erupts in applause. I’m saddened, as Jill mentions above, that someone can listen to and read the lyrics of this song and not be moved by it! We all HAVE to start thinking of other people and things besides ourselves!

This is a beautiful, BEAUTIFUL song. It really got me thinking. I think it’s saying that we’re all so selfish and don’t care what we do anymore cuz we’ve done so many bad things and God has stopped keeping track of all our wrongs. We know it’s wrong but we won’t face the truth. (Did you cover your eyes when they told you that he can’t come back?) We should be praying for time to do the right things. LOVE this song.
